Writer Fight Champions II

The votes were cast and the people chose their champions:

Roxane Gay & Scott McClanahan.

You can view the scorecards here and here.

Congrats to you both. Roxane remains undefeated, and Scott managed to knock Bell from his throne. You've both earned bragging rights for all eternity.

The fights were a bit lop-sided this go-round, but that's not to say that Bell & Glaser didn't give it their all. They've got a lot to be proud of.

Be sure to tune in next time when you'll be able to cast your votes on Roxane vs Tyrannosaurus Rex (because I'm not sure there's a living human out there who can beat her in a fist fight) and McClanahan vs...hm....We'll see. I'm kind of itching for a Jason Jordan vs John Madera. Perhaps the winner of that one can take on McClanahan.

In the meantime, keep your hands up and protect yourself at all times.

Writer Fight: Rachel B. Glaser vs Roxane Gay

Oh boy.

She may look small and sweet, but Rachel B. Glaser, author of the earth-shaking Pee on Water, knows how to throw down.

In this Writer Fight, she takes on the reigning champ Roxane Gay, co-editor of PANK and genius behind Tiny Hardcore Press.

After a sweaty, nasty bout with xTx, Roxane wears the crown. Can Rachel take it? You decide. Poll closes Sunday, February 20th, 2011. BOOOOOM!

Writer Fight: McClanahan vs Bell

The love-fest of Valentine's Day is over and it's time to get back to the blood-fest.

The latest Writer Fight pits the reigning champion Matt Bell (who defeated Blake Butler in the first WF) against the scrappy southerner Scott McClanahan.

Let's check the tale of the tape:

Matt Bell is the author of the wildly popular How They Were Found. He also edits The Collagist.

Scott McClanahan is the author of the wildly popular Stories II. He new book, Hill William, will be coming out on the New York Tyrant label.

Both of these lads know how to throw words. But who can throw the best fists? You decide. The poll closes Sunday, February 20th, 2011. Let's get it on!

Writer Fight Champions

Well, the people have spoken, and we have our winners from the first two Writer Fights:

Roxane Gay and Matt Bell.

Both Butler and xTx surged in the middle rounds, but it just wasn't enough.

So, who will be tough enough to take on our winners? We'll find out in the coming weeks.

Thanks to the fighters for fighting, and thanks to the voters for voting. Good times.

Writer Fight: Roxane Gay vs xTx

(click for instant testosterone boost)

You didn't think Writer Fight was just for the boys, did you? Silly bird.

While Butler and Bell duke it out over HERE, two powerhouses are getting ready to throw down below. That's right, it's Roxane Gay vs xTx time, publisher vs author.

xTx, the faceless entity who's taken the web by storm with He is Talking to the Fat Lady & her forthcoming Normally Special, squares off against Roxane Gay, writer, co-editor of PANK, power behind Tiny Hardcore Press, and pretty much the backbone of the online(and off-line)writing community.

I'm not gonna lie, this is going to be a nasty brawl. Who will win? You tell me. The poll closes on Friday. The winner of this bout will take on....?

Writer Fight: Butler vs Bell

Well, we all know they can both write. Matt Bell produces heavy hitting work like How They Were Found, and Blake Butler sets the world on fire with titles like Scorch Atlas.

However, the question is, can they fight? And what would happen if they fought each other? Would they even want to fight each other? And if they did, who would win? Wouldn't you like to know, even a little?

So today marks installment #1 of Writer Fight, pitting your favorite writers against each other in a UFC-style bout that exists solely in our warped imaginations, or at least in mine.

Choose your champion. The poll will close once we have a clear winner (or by Friday), and then that winner will take on....?

**note: No writers were harmed during the making of this poll. All in good fun, folks.
