Yesterday and Today

Yesterday was a good day. Today wasn’t so bad either.

Yesterday I came home to a package. A good package. Good mail. I like good mail. Enclosed in the package was the contract for my piece slated to appear in the July launch of Heron, a sidearm of Folded Word Press. Also enclosed were a couple of sample issues.

Outstanding. Simply outstanding. I can’t wait for the launch. I’ve been warm and fuzzy ever since getting my mail. Thank you, J.S. Graustein.

As I was enjoying the buzz from that, I received two great emails. More good mail. I should’ve called this post “Good Mail.”

The first email was from the editors of >kill author. Their premiere issue launched yesterday. It looks amazing, the content is amazing, everything is amazing. Well done to >kill author. And well done to xTx, Robb Todd, Ethel Rohan, and many, many others.

I managed to sneak into the issue as well. Read me here.

Lastly (yesterday), I received an email from a friend who had caught wind of the new issue of Prick of the Spindle, 3.2. I knew it was coming out this week, but I didn’t realize it would be yesterday.

Wow.

I’m not even sure how to describe this issue. You’ll have to take a look, and a read, for yourself. It features an awesome graphic short by Christy Call, outstanding fiction by David Erlewine, J.A. Tyler, Roberta Lawson…and on and on and on. Non-fiction, interviews….Sweet Lord. It’s jam-packed with goodies.

And yes, I’m also in it. Endless, infinite, gushing thanks to Prick of the Spindle and to Cynthia Reeser for warming up to my short novel, Grease Stains, Kismet, and Maternal Wisdom. I couldn’t be happier that this silly piece found a great home. It’s been in my pocket for going on five years, and it was finally given the opportunity to jump out and dance for anyone brave enough to read it. I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer a dedication:

This one is for you, VLM. You’ll always be in my head and my heart.

….that was yesterday.

Today was a good day because I woke up with all this on my mind. And, as I checked my email today (no good snail mail today—well, I got a new movie from Netflix), I learned that a short fiction piece called Peaches is now live in the stellar journal Calliope Nerve. Yet another big THANK YOU goes out to them. And another dedication:

This one is for you, xTx. It’s truly a pleasure to rant alongside you.

….I doubt I’ll see another 48 hours as cool as this anytime soon. I can only hope. We’ll see what comes.

Thanks again. To everyone. I love all you assholes.

X: You rock. Thank you.

Nate: Sit in the chair. Write the words. Keep your eyes open. That's all I got.
